Sony Wants To Get Players Onto The PlayStation 5 As Fast As Possible

Sony is gearing up for the release of the PlayStation 5, and there’s definitely a lot to consider when you’re putting one console to bed in order to bring the next generation to the players.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony top dog Jim Ryan spoke at length about the company’s plans for the PS5, and what it means for the gamers.

On the move over to the PS5 from the PS4, Ryan outlined the company’s plans, saying: “These are gamers who are networked and sticky and engaged and passionate about PlayStation to an extent that we’ve not seen in previous generations. As we move towards the next-generation in 2021, one of our tasks — probably our main task — is to take that community and transition it from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and at a scale and pace that we’ve never delivered on before.”

Speaking specifically on the development of the 2021 console, Ryan explained that Sony is working to streamline the process of creation for what will hopefully be a more pain-free process.

He said: “If we are to be successful, we really have to leverage the opportunities that globalisation brings…One is around the productisation of PlayStation 5, the definition of the feature set, of the development and the implementation of those features. That process, this time around, has been massively more streamlined compared to anything we’ve done in the past.”

He later added: “It’s human nature to view change as a risk, but change is every bit an opportunity.”

The PlayStation 5 doesn’t have an exact release date quite yet, but Sony is aiming for a Holiday 2021 release.
